Leigh-on-Sea Town Council took over the running of Leigh Community Centre in 2012 and the Centre has grown from strength to strength ever since. Hosting over 65 regular classes and meetings for a variety of different activities, the Centre also provides an affordable and exciting venue for events, parties and weddings. Regular children's activities are also organised for the school holidays as well as a monthly Farmers' Market.
The Council offices are housed on the ground floor with reception services available throughout the week.
Visit the Centre website for more information.
In 2018, the Town Council agreed a 2 year phase 1 repair and refurbishment for the community centre, following an extensive condition survey.
As part of a phased programme, those works requiring immediate attention, and to which will be carried out by 2020, include a new roof, internal lift, improved disabled access to the rear, opening up the foyer space to improve access, relocating the male toilets to the front of the building and general improvements addressing issues of damp and wear and tear throughout the building.
As part of repairs to the roof, the lantern light - an original feature of the building - will be restored. The 104 year old stained windows will be encased in new glazing to protect it for future generations to enjoy.
The centre will remain open during this time as the majority of works will be carried out during low seasons with relevant safety procedures in place.
