Leigh Town Council’s outgoing Artist in Residence, Mary Lister presented the Council with her legacy art piece for her year’s residency in Leigh Community Centre.
Mary’s textile wall hanging features a host of iconic images synonymous with Leigh using a mixture of fabrics and textures.
"I have experienced so many things that inspire me but most of all the community itself is the colour and texture of this piece… I used fabrics and pieces that represented the colourful and interesting people that inhabit Leigh”
Her role as Artist in Residence began in September 2016, using the attic space in the Community Centre as a studio and involving herself in community art initiatives as well as the Leigh Art Trail.
For each Artist’s residency the Council will be commissioning a legacy piece which in time will build up a portfolio of art displayed in the Community Centre alongside the affordable art wall and around the Town for years to come. This is the first legacy piece commissioned and it will be displayed in the foyer of the Community Centre. The Council will be announcing their new Artist in Residence imminently.
