Leigh-on-Sea Town Council celebrated its 21st Anniversary over the weekend with an Afternoon Tea at Leigh Community Centre to thank invited guests for their continued support and cooperation over the last twenty-one years.
The current Town Councillors each hosted a table of guests, among whom were Sir David Amess, Southend Borough Councillors and Officers, past Leigh-on-Sea Town Councillors, volunteers, longstanding hirers of Leigh Community Centre, Good for Leigh Winners and other community members. Musical entertainment was provided by 4&20 Blackbirds and Isabel Oliver.
The Council was formed in 1996, and is the only parished Council within the Southend Borough. There have been 64 members of the Council over the course of the 21 years and present Chairman, Cllr Jane Ward was thrilled to see so many of these in attendance. Cllr Donald Fraser is the longest serving Councillor having been on the Council since its inception.
