I am a toastmaster, musician, presenter and technician. After growing up in Leigh, I read music at Brunel University London majoring in musicology and performance before training with the National Association of Toastmasters. Having worked in radio part-time since 2019, I have presented and produced music programmes for K2K Radio and Hospital Radio Chelmsford combining journalism through interviews and writing articles. I am also an avid amateur railway historian and 'train buff', regrettably. All of this, of course, started in Leigh-on-Sea where I am now sub-organist at Wesley Methodist Church and have been in Southend Choirs since 2006.
I remember when Leigh was voted best place to live in the UK a few years ago. Amusingly I was in Hull visiting family (also a lovely place) and saw one of my neighbours being interviewed on BBC News. It got me thinking, why? What did we do? What didn't we do for that matter? I realised that, actually, it took a lot of effort and hard work by residents, business owners, Councillors and civil servants to make a place stand out in the statistics but not as a great collective, but by being a typically "nice" community, everyone doing their bit to help everyone else. That is what I love about Leigh the most - that and the fact it looks pretty good, too, especially from the water. That kind of award shows people are, on the whole, happy and aware of each other and that is what I wish to continue as a Councillor, doing the very best for Leigh. After all, a place is made by it's people.
