Chairman's Charity 2019-2020 announced!
Newly elected Town Council Chairman Jill Healey, has selected Age Concern Southend as the chosen charity for her year as head of the Council.
Cllr Healey was very keen to support a local charity and one that was close to her heart. The Council are excited for this new connection, and hope to build up a strong link with the charity as they did with the Southend YMCA last year, and have already discussed working together to improve facilities for the elderly in Leigh-on-Sea.
There will be a series of councillor led events planned over the next year to help raise funds for the charity, including a wine tasting event and quiz night.
Age Concern Southend has been helping older people in the Southend area since 1974, they provide advice, support, befriending, transport, wheelchair hire, community clubs and leisure/social activities. The charity took over the former Havens Department Store last year and have since raised £160,000 to transform this into "The Haven” an older people's Community Hub but they still need help from the community to raise the remaining £300,000 to finish the project.
