Leigh-on-Sea Town Council are pleased to announce that the extension works to the Leigh Skate Park has now started. The Council have developed the under utilised grass area to extend the skate park.
The Council have worked closely with local skaters to come up with the design and were delighted and incredibly appreciative that Betong Parks donated their time to come up with a design to suit all wheeled sports.
Following the Council’s procurement process, local company Intex Properties Ltd will build and finish the skatepark extension. We were delighted to be awarded a grant by Enovert Community Trust which will enable the project to be completed in full now.
Leigh has a growing population and a large youth community. Unfortunately over recent years, a number of youth facilities in the area have closed to make way for housing. The Town Council has provided two youth clubs and the existing skate park provision helps but it could not sufficiently support the growing number of users to the park. In addition, the current pandemic has highlighted the importance of outside exercise space and as such we expect the new facility is a welcomed outlet for many.
The skate park will be open to the general public, 7 days a week, 24 hours a day. No membership or booking will be required to use the facilities and all wheel-based sports are welcomed.
We look forward to opening the newly improved park later in October 2020.
