There are currently 2 vacancies on Leigh-on-Sea Town Council for the Elms Ward and St Clements Ward. An election trigger notice was received for the Elms Ward vacancy and this will go to election later in the year.
However, the time limit has passed for electors in the St Clements ward to call an election and the vacancy will now be filled by co-option at a Council meeting in March.
The co-opted Councillor will serve until the next ordinary election in May 2023.
Any person over 18 who is a citizen of the UK, the EU or the Commonwealth can be a Councillor if they are an elector in, work in, live in or live within 3 miles of the Town Council boundary during the 12 months preceding the day of their nomination.
Anyone who is interested is invited to apply, in writing (letter or email), to the Town Clerk, Leigh-on-Sea Town Council, 71-73 Elm Road, SS9 1SP. In the application, please identify any particular interests, qualifications or relevant experience and confirm that you meet the criteria for eligibility and are not disqualified to be a member of the Council.
For further details about the co-option process and what it means to be a Councillor, please refer to http://www.leighonseatowncouncil.gov.uk/the-council or contact the Town Clerk – firstname.lastname@example.org.
The closing date for applications is Sunday 28th February and candidates are asked to attend a virtual meeting of Council by Zoom on Tuesday 23rd March at 7.30 p.m. where the co-option procedure will be on the Agenda.
