Leigh-on-Sea Town Council run a Community Art wall at Leigh Community Centre to allow local artists or groups to exhibit their work. As the centre has been closed to the public over the majority of the last year, we are thrilled to once again welcome some colour in our corridors.
Those who had had an exhibition scheduled to take place in 2020 will now be showcasing their work in 2021. However, we are excited to announce that we are relaunching our Art Wall with a joint exhibition from our past and present Artists in Residence; Kerry Doyland and Susan Allen.
“Art in the Attic” will be running at the centre from 28th June to 13th August.
Susan Allen and Kerry Doyland come from very different creative backgrounds, but they share a love of painting and drawing from life. Their residencies in our attic studio at the Community Centre have afforded them the space to be able to design backdrops in which to set the human form or arrange a still life.
This exhibition will showcase a variety of work created by both artists in the attic here at the Centre. It will also show some of their plein air landscapes done further afield, some as part of Susan’s art teaching and some as a record of Kerry’s time spent painting with Sky Arts.
There will also be pieces painted by local artists who were invited as guests, to the painting sessions in the attic, hosted by Kerry during her residency and now Susan during hers.
There will also be an opportunity for visitors to register their interest in participating in this year’s art events being organised by Susan Allen.
