Leigh-on-Sea Town Council are pleased to have purchased a table tennis table for Bonchurch Park and an activity top picnic table for both Bonchurch Park and Leigh Library Gardens for residents to enjoy.
The new additions to these Leigh parks were installed earlier this month with the help of Southend Parks Team and the Town Council hope to secure an additional table for Leigh Library Gardens in the future, should space and permissions allow. Please note you will need to bring your own game pieces, bats and balls.
The equipment was purchased using funds from the Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL). CIL is a levy that local authorities can choose to charge on new developments in their area. Leigh-on-Sea Town Council is awarded 15% of this money from Southend Borough Council relating to developments within the Leigh-on-Sea Town Council boundary. The money must be used to support development of local infrastructure that the council and community want.
The Town Council have also previously funded a new seesaw in Leigh Library Gardens using CIL funding, plus the street art wall, skatepark and library garden bins and have other projects in the pipeline.
A spokesman for Leigh Town Council said, ‘We are pleased to support our local parks where we can and thank Southend Borough Council Parks Team for their support. We have also put the parks in the spotlight at our events, such as our previous Community Day at Bonchurch Park or our Festive Lighting in the Library Gardens, creating a programme of fun for our residents.’
