Jubilee Picnic a great success!

Leigh-on-Sea Town Council were thrilled to host their Jubilee Picnic in Bonchurch Park on Sunday 29th May ahead of the nation’s celebrations for the Platinum Jubilee this week. Despite a bit of bad weather, the Council welcomed hundreds of people to the park, who brought their picnics along to enjoy an afternoon of free family friendly entertainment.

Musical performances were provided by The Hoy Shanty Crew, Below Sea Level, Kristine Boicuka, and The Show Choir, as well as a special performance by Tim Howar, West End performer and lead vocalist of Mike and the Mechanics.

Children were treated to a host of free activities including Jubilee crafts from the Art Ministry, rock painting with Love on the Rocks UK, Punch and Judy with Professor Joe, stilt walking and balloon modelling with Magic Dave and crown making with our Artist in Residence Kerry Doyland.

The Council would also like to thank all of those who hosted stalls on the day including Leigh Lions, Royal British Legion, Southend Community Safety Team, Leigh-on-Sea U3A, SODS, Friends of Leigh Library Gardens, Indirock, Leigh Scouts, and the Ploverleigh Savoy Players.

The afternoon was rounded off by a rousing sing-a-long of Land of Hope and Glory and the National Anthem, and the flags were out in force.

Leigh-on-Sea Town Council are so pleased that so many people braved the weather to come and join us, and would also like to acknowledge the National Lottery Community Fund who provided additional funding for the event, for all of the extra special touches.
