Our last chairman, Cllr Jill Healey, selected Age Concern Southend on Sea as the Chairman's Charity for 2019/20. Cllr Healey presented the cheque to them last week. We were incredibly proud to have raised £1067.03 to help support this local charity.

The local shops and businesses take control during lockdown
Leigh-on-Sea Town Council has recently received a prestigious award as part of the Local Council Award Scheme.
Leigh-on-Sea Town Council, with the help of Leigh Lions, have installed a new Automated External Defibrillator (AED) on Strand Wharf (behind the Heritage Centre) for the safety of the town. The machine was unveiled on Thursday 3rd September.

As the market celebrates it’s 20th year, the town council will be marking the occasion with a special virtual market on Saturday 25th July through the @LeighTCevents Facebook page.
The town council instead will look into other possibilities to help compensate in some way for Leigh Lights and the Christmas street lights will still be on for the town to enjoy.

Our longest serving Councillor has sadly passed away on 19th June 2020.
Over recent weeks Southend Business Improvement District (BID), councillors and officers from Southend Council, Leigh Town Council, the seafront traders association, Essex Chambers of Commerce and other local businesses have been working together to deal with the Government’s relaxation of lockdown measures and ensure that the Borough is a safe place to visit and shop.

A fantastic sum was raised for the Chairman's Charity, Southend YMCA
The 12-month residency is open to artists from any art form which is appropriate to be carried out within the Centre and those that live or work in Leigh will have priority. The scheme offers studio hire at a reasonable price and the opportunity to curate exhibitions on the Art Wall within the Centre.
Important information for all users of Leigh Community Centre
All donations go towards the cost of the event, including the lights themselves and security.
Despite the rain, over 300 people turned out to enjoy mulled wine, mince pies and a good old sing along with Salvation Army for Carols on Strand Wharf on Saturday 8th December.
Every year the Leigh Lights yuletide parade continues to grow, attracting over 400 participants!
